I really intended not to respond to Supervisor Candidate Smith’s post about Al Spain, it was just too stupid. Then, I had some people who follow the blogs, ask me if I was going to write something. So, here goes. In 2011, for someone to make a statement that Democrats don’t let Democrats vote for Republicans is just about the stupidest, most ignorant thing anybody could say. In case you haven’t heard Supervisor Candidate Smith, Hitler died!
We are fortunate indeed to live in the United States of America where within reason we are all allowed to make our own decisions. What to wear, what to eat, where we go to church, who we vote for ………. etc. As long as we follow the correct process, we can run for elected office on whatever political line is in our best interests. As far as the Town Democratic Party is concerned, at the moment, it pales in comparison to what it once was. And still, Al Spain’s ties are so strongly attached to his Democratic roots, he will face Supervisor Candidate Smith in a primary and the ability to once again run on the Democratic line.l
On a purely local level, it is of little concern what party you’re enrolled in or if you are enrolled in a party at all. On Election Day you go and vote for whatever candidate you think will do the best job for North Greenbush. Al Spain has never made a secret of the fact that he is running on the GOP line, crossed endorsed by the Conservatives. That must tell you that he is valued as a leader in North Greenbush. The only person the Town Dems could come up with was Supervisor Candidate Smith and that’s because nobody else would run for the position. When the Primary is over, and Al wins, which I suspect he will, that should pretty much put an end to the Ashley/Smith negative influence on the Town Board.
If it walks like a putz, and it talks like a putz, then it must be Supervisor Candidate Smith. Auchtung!!!!!!!!!!!
